About this Position

We are hiring a Senior Backend Developer with strong command of Vanilla PHP (no frameworks) to help us maintain and improve core backend systems. This role is ideal for someone comfortable with raw PHP and SQL, and who can manage large systems with procedural logic and efficiency. You will lead backend efforts for legacy and new projects, working with frontend and mobile teams to ensure integration and performance.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop backend features using Vanilla PHP.
• Write reusable functions and logic without relying on frameworks.
• Handle database design and queries with MySQL/PostgreSql.
• Build and maintain APIs, including authentication and third-party integrations.
• Refactor legacy codebases to improve maintainability.
• Document backend architecture and logic flow.
• Provide mentorship and technical support to junior developers when needed.
• Document code, architecture decisions, and version control changes clearly.

Skill/Personality Requirements

You are a good fit for this position if you have:

• Have a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• Possess 5+ years of experience writing Vanilla PHP.
• Can confidently work WITHOUT frameworks like Laravel or Symfony.
• Are skilled with SQL, especially with optimizing complex queries.
• Have delivered production systems or can reference a few.
• Are disciplined with code structure and version control.
• Are comfortable leading features and collaborating cross-functionally.
• Possess a great culture of integrity, communication, and team-work.
• Bonus: Ability to use frameworks (only) when needed.
